In addition to the centennial, Kabeyun marked another milestone in 2024 with the 50th year of Family Camp! Volunteer organizers and staff members created a few special events, including two banquets, two talent shows, and a slideshow of vintage photos.

Chef Mark Robbins and his team cooked celebratory, family-style dinners both Saturday nights while volunteers decorated the dining hall with tablecloths, flowers, and photos from past Family Camps. After dinner, Emily Schebesta shared a slideshow of photos taken by her dad, the late Chuck Sterne, over many years of Family Camp.

Family Campers also gathered in the Lodge both Friday nights for rousing talent shows, emceed by Julie Puchkoff the first weekend and Carl Metzger the second. Just like Family Camp itself, the talent shows were lively, joyous, and multigenerational celebrations of Kabeyun!

Teddy Coffin is one of a handful of people who’ve attended every single Family Camp since the tradition began in 1973. At 94, Teddy has warm memories of both the people and activities from Family Camp’s early years, when most families stayed for two weeks. “We played tennis, we canoed, we sailed, we did it all!”
