The Log of the West Wind 2024 2024 News of Friends and Alumni Saturday, April 12, 2025 This is the 28th edition of the Log of the West Wind. We want to hear from you! Send your updates and photos to us. Alex Arensberg lives in Denver with his spouse Angela, their daughter Quinn, and another baby on the way. He’s an environmental lawyer who “always enjoys catching up with Kabeyun folks when they come through town.” Recent visitors include Kevin and Katie Wilcox and Mark and Ken Robbins. Alex and his father Walter, a camper from 1949 through 1953, returned to Kabeyun for the centennial celebration. Congratulations to Alex Hill and Kyra Richardson, who married in December after many years together. Alex writes: “Kyra proposed, we enjoyed our ring pops, and were married a few days later by a friend who is a justice of the peace in her kitchen.” Jonathan Levin was inaugurated as the 13th president of Stanford University in August. A big Kabeyun contingent was on hand for the celebration. Friends Stark Draper, Bill Robinson, and Al Robinson joined members of Jon’s family including his spouse Amy, sons Ben and Noah Levin, and daughter Madeline (pictured). Jon’s brother Dan and his sons Alex and Nat Levin, nephew Zach Taubman, and parents Rick and Jane Levin also were there. After graduating from Southern New Hampshire University in May, Gabi Libenson is now teaching fourth grade in Barnstead, NH, where she grew up. Gabi shared this photo and writes: “This is the same classroom where I was a 5th grader, so it’s a pretty full circle moment!” Matt Thacker made a big transition this fall, moving back to New England and becoming a middle school science teacher in Orford, NH. Matt joined the Rivendell interstate school district, which incorporates towns in both New Hampshire and Vermont. He’s been rock climbing in the area with Sam Dyer, a mountain guide based in Jackson, NH, and Colin Lunetta, who’s living on a farm in Bethlehem, NH. John Morris III and his spouse Alexa welcomed John B. Morris IV (“Johnny”) in September 2024. The family has moved to Chatham, NJ, from Manhattan. David Puchkoff now plays Principal Trumpet for the New York City Ballet Orchestra. David began his professional career in the United States Army Band, a.k.a. “Pershing’s Own.” As a member of the Concert Band from 2019-2023, he performed at the White House, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Pentagon, and other landmarks. David enjoys hiking and baking in his free time. Jack Robinson is a renewable energy supply chain consultant and military intelligence officer in the Army Reserves. This spring, he’ll complete almost 5 months of training at Fort Huachuca, learning about the army’s battlefield intelligence production process and opposing forces tactics. In August, Jack, his brother Gus Robinson, and their cousins Luke Latham and Katie Rosa spent six days canoeing in northern Maine together. “We started at Indian Stream on Eagle Lake and paddled the Allagash River down to where it meets the St John River. Until we hit Allagash falls (which we portaged!), we had seen more moose than other groups on the river,” he reports. Congratulations to Dan Schlozman, who published two books in 2024. The Hollow Parties: The Many Pasts and Disordered Present of American Party Politics, co-authored by Sam Rosenfeld, tracks the decline of U.S. political parties since the Jacksonian era and received many positive reviews. Dan also authored an interpretive historical essay about Kabeyun, sections of which appear in camp’s official centennial book, Kabeyun: The First 100 Years. Dan is an associate professor of political science at Johns Hopkins University. Josh Wolk joined the faculty of Brandeis University this fall as a Professor of the Practice in the school's growing journalism program. He’s splitting his time between Brooklyn and Brandeis for one year while his daughter finishes high school and then plans to move back to his home state of Massachusetts. Along with Maria Latham, Josh was a driving force behind’s Kabeyun’s centennial book, writing segments and serving as the editor. Last March, Henry Timmer and Bart O’Sullivan had a surprise meeting in a most unlikely spot -- a hiking trail in Sequoia National Park in central California. The two New Yorkers shared a cabin in 2022, when Henry was the Lions intern and Bart was a camper. Henry recognized Bart, who was hiking with his parents on vacation. Sequoia is just one of many national parks Henry explored during a gap year in a converted van. Previous Article Gifts to the 2024 Kabeyun Annual Fund Next Article In Memoriam
