Ivan Hall

(1932 – 2023)

Ivan P. Hall, co-founder of the Kabeyun Mountain Club, died in February 2023 in East Berlin. Ivan was a diplomat and author specializing in the history of Japan. Born in Bulgaria to American missionary parents, Ivan was always comfortable in intercultural settings. In addition to Japan and Germany, he lived for many years in Thailand, and worked in Afghanistan and Bangladesh after graduating from Princeton and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Ivan was a Kabeyun counselor for several years in the early 1950’s. He helped expand the hiking program and was one of the founders of the KMC in 1953. He continued to visit and support camp into his 80's.

Eli Wolff 

(1977 – 2023)

Eli Wolff, an advocate for athletes with disabilities, died of cardiac arrest in April 2023. After a stroke left Eli partially paralyzed on one side as a toddler, he found joy and inclusion playing sports, especially soccer. He spent his career working to open sports to athletes of all abilities. Among a long list of accomplishments, Eli ensured sport was included in the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and successfully lobbied Major League Baseball to change the name of its “Disabled List” to “Injured Reserve” in 2019. The Brown University graduate was a member of the U.S. Paralympic Soccer Team in 1996 and 2004. Eli lived in Wellesley, MA, and is survived by his wife, Dr. Cheri Blauwet, and two young children.
