David Porter (1948 – 2022)
David Porter, grand-nephew of Kabeyun’s founder John Porter, died in Maryland in September 2022. The retired attorney had a lifelong passion for photography, vintage cars and motorcycles, and sailing the Chesapeake Bay. David learned to sail as a Kabeyun camper and as an adult, he devoted at least two nights of the week to sailing. “He was a master sail trimmer, constantly tweaking the main and the jib to gain the slightest advantage,” recalls his wife Mary Ellen. David is also survived by a brother, Michael, a sister, two daughters, and two granddaughters.

Alan Seligson (1930 – 2021)
Alan Seligson, a generous donor to Kabeyun and other institutions, died in June 2021 at home in Locust Valley, NY. Alan’s son Andy was a Kabeyun camper in the 1970s who died of neuroblastoma at age 25. In his memory, Alan and his wife Edith purchased two consecutive Ski Nautique boats, both named “The Andy,” for camp’s waterskiing program. They also provided funds to help Kabeyun better accommodate married couples on our staff, including building the Owl’s Nest. Alan founded NF&M International, a company that makes aerospace parts. Much of Alan and Edith’s extensive philanthropy was dedicated to genetic-level cancer research.
